Young guns vie for Formula Renault, Ginetta Junior honours
23/10/2009 - This Saturday (31 October), Snetterton will host the first rounds of several winter series as part of the BARC's final visit to the Norfolk circuit in 2009.
Winter series' give drivers the opportunity to sample championships at a lower cost before making the commitment of entering a full season.
A number of drivers have used these mini championships as a springboard to success, including 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, who took the Formula Renault Winter Series title in 2000.
Last season's Formula Renault Winter Series was won by James Calado, who went on to secure second place in the main 2009 championship and receive a nomination for the prestigious Autosport McLaren BRDC Award.
Joining Formula Renault this Saturday is the Ginetta Junior Winter Series for 14-17 year olds. Last season, Josh Hill - son of former F1 World Champion Damon - took overall honours, and a number of young drivers will be looking to make the most of this year's competition to set themselves up for a full campaign in 2010.
The Caterham Academy winter series will complete the trio of categories competing at Snetterton this Saturday.
The BARC winter series begins at Snetterton on Saturday 31 October. Advance adult tickets cost £10 with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
