Manchester racer to make British F3 debut at home circuit

02/02/2010 - Cheshire driver Oli Webb will make his debut appearance in the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series at his home circuit Oulton Park over Easter weekend (3/5 April), after signing for Fortec Motorsport this season.

Manchester-based Webb, who started his career in the MSV-run T Cars series and who finished third in the 2009 Formula Renault UK Championship, has already impressed the British F3 paddock after setting the quickest time of the day in five of the six tests he has taken part in so far.

"I am delighted with how pre-season testing has gone so far and I am really happy with how I have adapted to the car," said Webb. "The Formula 3 car has a lot more downforce and engine power and the way it drives suits my driving style more than the Formula Renault did. It is a far more complicated car to set up and that means I will learn a lot more in this series which I can put into practice for years afterwards.

"To be fastest in five out of the six and second in the other test is more than I could have hoped when I was up against guys with a year of experience in the car already. The list of drivers who have done a season or more in British F3 before going on to race at the highest level is pretty incredible and I am determined to join them."

Fortec's senior race engineer Mick Kouros is also confident of Oli's chances in British F3, remarking that the squad believes he will be among the very fastest in the championship this season.

The 2010 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series gets underway at Oulton Park over Easter weekend in a double headline with the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, which will feature powerful supercars including Ferraris and Aston Martins.
