19/10/2009 - A memorable year of racing at Oulton Park concludes this Saturday (24 October) with the seventh and final round of the 2009 Wirral 100 championship.
The Wirral 100 has a large base of members in the North West, which has led to 240 riders competing this Saturday at the clubs 'home circuit'. The day's racing starts with a series of races that determine the grid for the 'Championship' and 'Trophy' races in the second part of the day.
Of the club's eleven series racing on Saturday, the most finely poised is the 125ccGP category, where the top three riders are separated by just three points. Welsh rider Jamie Harris holds the upper hand from compatriot Darren Jones. Local rider Connor Behan, from Northwich, is still in contention for the title at his home circuit in third place.
In the Formula 600 - Steel Framed series, Karl Owen has been in dominant form throughout the season and has already secured the championship. Second place behind Owen is being hotly contested with four riders capable of finishing runner-up.
Local rider David Carson will be aiming for another victory in the Formula 125 series. The Northwich-based rider arrives at his local circuit with a comfortable lead over Ceuron Williams and will want to leave Oulton Park with another win to secure the 2009 title.
There will be a special guest on the day, as Rob Barber will perform some demonstration laps on the electric-powered Team Agni bike. Barber claimed the inaugural TTXGP race on the Isle of Man in June riding the GSX-R recording an average speed of over 87mph around the formidable circuit.
The day will also feature racing from Minitwin 650, Formula 600, Classic Bikes, Powerbikes, Formula 400 and Sidecars.
Advance tickets for the Wirral 100 event at Oulton Park this Saturday, 24 October, cost £10 for adults with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
