Oulton Park revs up for British F3 and GT Championships

Circuit to host double-header season opener next weekend

Jakob Ebrey

03/04/2009 - This Easter weekend (11/13 April), Oulton Park's major event season begins with one of the most diverse race meetings on the calendar: the British F3 and GT Championships.

The Cooper Tires British F3 International Series is one of the hottest training grounds for future F1 drivers, with Jenson Button, Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna among its list of graduates.

2009 is set to be one of British F3's most open seasons to date as half the field stand a strong chance of championship victory. Leading the charge will be 2008 champions Carlin Motorsport with a quartet of drivers: 17-year-old Max Chilton, Henry Arundel - son of the Duke of Norfolk, Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo and World Kart champion Oliver Oakes.

However, Carlin Motorsport will face a tough challenge from JTR's Nick Tandy, who demonstrated impressive pace in an official test at Oulton Park last month. Other front-runners include T-Sport's Wayne Boyd, who reached the finals for the prestigious 2008 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, and Raikkonen Robertson Racing's Daisuke Nakajima - brother of Williams F1 driver Kazuki.

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship features some of the world's most famous supercar marques including Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin. Each car is piloted by a pair of drivers, with a mandatory pit stop and driver swap during the race.

17-year-old Daniel Brown and 24-year-old Stuart Hall will become one of the youngest teams ever to compete in the championship when they race a Mosler MT900 at Oulton Park next weekend, whilst 2007 title winners RPM Motorsport will run the iconic V8-powered Ford GT supercar.

As well as two races from each headline series, the British F3 and GT Championship event will feature a full programme of support races - including the single seater race debut of Josh Hill, son of 1996 F1 champion Damon, in the British Formula Ford Championship.

There will also be an array of Easter weekend off-track entertainment including a funfair, face painting and driver autograph sessions.

Tickets for the British F3 and GT Championships at Oulton Park on 11/13 April cost from £16 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
