13/10/2009 - MotorSport Vision is hoping to launch Club MSV Endurance Racing next year, a new entry-level race series aimed at trackday enthusiasts and those looking for a cost effective route into competitive motorsport.
We plan for the series to be affordable, relaxed and fun, and we're looking to attract trackday and novice racing drivers. All you need is your existing vehicle - we'll help with the rest, including any adjustments you may need to make and getting an MSA race licence. An initial outline of the concept is below, but we would like to hear your thoughts and ideas on whether you would like to be part of the new series.
- Teams of two to enter
- Cars must be 10 years or older
- Entry roughly £400 per car per race
Provisional Car Regulations
- Cars must be over 10 years old
- No turbo-engined cars
- Cars must meet MSA safety requirements - roll-cage, cut off switches, towing eyes, fire system etc.
- Tyres - this will not be a one make series but slicks will not be allowed.
Beyond the above, we want to keep regulations to a minimum so that trackday users who have already developed their cars without regulations in mind can still take part. There would probably be a class system, most likely based on power to weight ratio, to ensure equality throughout the field.
Race Format
The following sessions would all take place on one day to keep costs to a minimum:
- 30 minutes practice / qualifying
- 45 minute or possibly 1 hour race with mandatory driver change within a mid-race, half distance window
- No fuel stops allowed
Entry Costs
Entry costs would be approximately £400 including VAT per race, based on the above format and depending on the circuit. The series would have anything up to six races, at some of the UK's best circuits - including Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and Silverstone. Rather than accruing championship points, trophies would be awarded at each race for the top finishers, plus others for fun.
Suggested cars:
We've even put together a provisional list of cars that would be ideally suited to the new series, including:
Peugeot 106, Peugeot 205, Peugeot 306, Citroen Saxo, Golf GTI, BMW E30, Mazda MX5, Porsche 924, Porsche 944, Toyota MR2, Renault Clio and anything else that you can get on the grid for about £3,000!
Driver training
Whether you're a seasoned professional or a trackday novice, you can utilise all the resources MSV has to offer in order to get on the grid - including driver training and an ARDS test in order to get an MSA racing licence.
In the build up to the first race we would also like to offer every driver as much help as they need, including:
Novice Test Days: We want to host a novice test day for new racing drivers, with instructors on hand throughout the day to answer and questions you may have, as well as classrooms on car preparation. Scrutineers may also be present to advise on any improvements or adjustments you may need to make to your vehicle prior to your first race. There may also be an opportunity to practice race starts during the lunch hour.
Race event guided tour: We may also offer a day where you can shadow a racing driver, giving you first hand experience of a race day format from signing on and scrutineering through to practice and the race itself.
